Teaching & Advising
At UNU-WIDER, I serve as a faculty mentor in our PhD Fellows program. The program provides an opportunity for doctoral students from around the world to use the resources and facilities of UNU-WIDER and to work with UNU-WIDER researchers in areas of mutual interest. PhD Fellows typically visit us for a period of three months in the final stages of their studies and complete and present at least one research paper. For more information, please see the UNU-WIDER website. (General questions about the application process and your eligibility should be sent to the contact noted there -- not to me, please.)
I have also contributed to the graduate course on Development Economics jointly provided by UNU-WIDER and the Helsinki Centre of Economic Research (HECER). More information on programs of study supported by UNU-WIDER and the United Nations University can be found here and here.
Occasionally, I hear from students seeking advice about PhD applications or funding. If you are a prospective PhD student in political science or economics -- and especially if you are interested in programs in the US -- advice from Erica Chenoweth, Macartan Humphreys, Daniel Nexon, and Chris Blattman is well-worth a read.
